Trofinetide is a tripeptide composed of glycine, 2-methyl-L-proline, and L-glutamic acid linked by peptide bonds. It is the first and only FDA-approved treatment for Rett syndrome in adults and pediatric patients aged two years and older. It functions as a neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory agent. Chemically, it is a tripeptide, pyrrolidinecarboxamide, primary amino compound, secondary carboxamide, tertiary carboxamide, and dicarboxylic acid. It is functionally related to L-glutamic acid and glycine.
