Desoximetasone is dexamethasone with the hydroxy group at the 17alpha position replaced by hydrogen. It is a synthetic corticosteroid with glucocorticoid activity, used as an anti-inflammatory and antipruritic agent for treating skin disorders such as allergies and psoriasis. It is an 11beta-hydroxy, 21-hydroxy, glucocorticoid, 20-oxo, fluorinated, 3-oxo-Delta(1),Delta(4)-steroid, and primary alpha-hydroxy ketone.
