Enalaprilat (anhydrous) is the carboxylic acid form of enalapril, obtained by hydrolysis of the ethyl ester group. It is an ACE inhibitor used in the treatment of hypertension and heart failure, as well as for reducing proteinuria and renal disease in nephropathies, and for preventing stroke, myocardial infarction, and cardiac death in high-risk patients. Unlike enalapril, enalaprilat is not orally absorbed and is administered intravenously, typically as the dihydrate. It functions as an EC 3.4.15.1 (peptidyl-dipeptidase A) inhibitor and an antihypertensive agent. It is a dicarboxylic acid and a dipeptide.
