Fluorometholone acetate is a steroid ester formed by the condensation of the 17-hydroxy group of fluorometholone with acetic acid. It is used in treating steroid-responsive inflammatory conditions of the palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva, cornea, and anterior segment of the eye. It functions as an anti-inflammatory drug and is classified as a glucocorticoid, 3-oxo-Delta(1),Delta(4)-steroid, 20-oxo steroid, 11beta-hydroxy steroid, acetate ester, fluorinated steroid, and is functionally related to Delta(1)-progesterone and fluorometholone.
