Prednisolone phosphate is a synthetic glucocorticoid formed by the condensation of the 21-hydroxy group of prednisolone with a hydroxy group of phosphoric acid. It acts as a prodrug for prednisolone, which is activated in vivo by phosphatases. It functions as an anti-inflammatory agent, glucocorticoid receptor agonist, antineoplastic agent, and prodrug. It is a steroid phosphate, an 11beta-hydroxy steroid, a 17alpha-hydroxy steroid, a 20-oxo steroid, a 3-oxo-Delta(1),Delta(4)-steroid, a tertiary alpha-hydroxy ketone, and a glucocorticoid. It is functionally related to prednisolone and is the conjugate acid of prednisolone phosphate(2-).
