Prednisolone succinate is a hemisuccinate formed by the condensation of the 21-hydroxy group of prednisolone with a carboxy group of succinic acid. It is used to treat mild to moderate non-infectious eye allergies and inflammation, including damage from chemical and thermal burns. It functions as an anti-inflammatory drug. It is classified as an 11beta-hydroxy steroid, a 17alpha-hydroxy steroid, a 20-oxo steroid, a 3-oxo-Delta(1),Delta(4)-steroid, and a tertiary alpha-hydroxy ketone. It is functionally related to prednisolone and succinic acid. It is the conjugate acid of prednisolone succinate(1-).
