Product Information

Methoxsalen is a psoralen with the structure 7H-furo[3,2-g]chromen-7-one, substituted at the 9-position with a methoxy group. It is found in the fruits of Ammi majus. Like other psoralens, it causes skin photosensitization. It is used topically or orally with UV-A light for phototherapy in vitiligo and severe psoriasis. Methoxsalen functions as a dermatologic drug, antineoplastic agent, photosensitizing agent, cross-linking reagent, plant metabolite, and aromatic ether. It belongs to the psoralen class and is functionally related to other psoralens.
