Monomethyl fumarate is a dicarboxylic acid monoester formed by the condensation of one carboxy group of fumaric acid with methanol. It is a metabolite of dimethyl fumarate and is used in the treatment of relapsing multiple sclerosis. It induces the NFE2L2 (Nrf2) transcription factor by binding to KEAP1. It functions as an immunomodulator, antioxidant, and drug metabolite. It is an enoate ester, methyl ester, and dicarboxylic acid monoester, and is functionally related to fumaric acid.
