Alvocidib is a synthetic dihydroxyflavone, specifically 5,7-dihydroxyflavone, substituted with a 3-hydroxy-1-methylpiperidin-4-yl group at position 8 and a chlorine at the 2' position (the (-)-3S,4R stereoisomer). It is a CDK9 inhibitor studied for acute myeloid leukaemia, arthritis, and atherosclerotic plaque formation. It functions as an antineoplastic agent, EC 2.7.11.22 inhibitor, antirheumatic drug, and apoptosis inducer. It is classified as a dihydroxyflavone, hydroxypiperidine, monochlorobenzene, and tertiary amino compound, and is the conjugate base of alvocidib(1+).
