Product Information

Adefovir is a phosphonic acid derivative of methylphosphonic acid, with one methyl hydrogen replaced by a 2-(6-amino-9H-purin-9-yl)ethoxy group. It functions as an HIV-1 reverse transcriptase inhibitor and is used as a prodrug (bis(t-butoxycarbonyloxymethyl) ester) to treat chronic hepatitis B. It is classified as a 6-aminopurine, an ether, and a DNA synthesis inhibitor, and is functionally related to adenine. It also acts as a drug metabolite, an antiviral drug, and a nephrotoxic agent. It is the conjugate acid of adefovir(1-).
