L-buthionine-(S,R)-sulfoximine is 2-amino-4-(S-butylsulfonimidoyl)butanoic acid with S-configuration. It inhibits gamma-glutamylcysteine synthetase and glutathione biosynthesis, enhancing apoptotic effects of chemotherapeutic agents. It acts as a ferroptosis inducer and EC 6.3.2.2 (glutamate--cysteine ligase) inhibitor.
