Enzalutamide is a benzamide formed by the formal condensation of the carboxy group of 4-{3-[4-cyano-3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-5,5-dimethyl-4-oxo-2-thioxoimidazolidin-1-yl}-2-fluorobenzoic acid with methylamine. It is used in the treatment of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer. Enzalutamide functions as an antineoplastic agent and androgen antagonist. It belongs to the classes of benzamides, imidazolidinones, thiocarbonyl compounds, nitriles, (trifluoromethyl)benzenes, and monofluorobenzenes.
