Monepantel is a secondary carboxamide formed by the condensation of the carboxy group of p-[(trifluoromethyl)sulfanyl]benzoic acid with the amino group of (2S)-2-amino-3-hydroxy-2-methylpropanenitrile, where the hydroxy group is replaced by a 5-cyano-2-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl ether. It is a broad-spectrum nematicide used to control gastrointestinal roundworms in sheep and goats. It functions as an anthelminthic drug and nematicide. It is a nitrile, aryl sulfide, aromatic ether, member of (trifluoromethyl)benzenes, and a secondary carboxamide.
