Vismodegib is a benzamide formed by the formal condensation of the carboxy group of 2-chloro-4-(methylsulfonyl)benzoic acid with the anilino group of 4-chloro-3-(pyridin-2-yl)aniline. It is used in the treatment of metastatic basal cell carcinoma. It functions as an antineoplastic agent, SMO receptor antagonist, Hedgehog signaling pathway inhibitor, and teratogenic agent. It is a sulfone, a member of benzamides, pyridines, and monochlorobenzenes.
