Trandolapril is a heterobicyclic compound with the structure (2S,3aR,7aS)-1-[(2S)-2-aminopropanoyl]octahydro-1H-indole-2-carboxylic acid, where the amino group's hydrogen is replaced by a (2R)-1-ethoxy-1-oxo-4-phenylbutan-2-yl group. It is an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor and a prodrug used in the treatment of hypertension. It functions as a prodrug, antihypertensive agent, and inhibitor of EC 3.4.15.1 (peptidyl-dipeptidase A). It is classified as a dicarboxylic acid monoester, dipeptide, ethyl ester, secondary amino compound, tertiary carboxamide, and organic heterobicyclic compound. It is functionally related to trandolaprilat.
