Ramipril is a dipeptide and ethyl ester prodrug that is converted to the active metabolite ramiprilat via hydrolysis of the ethyl ester group. It is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor used to treat hypertension and congestive heart failure. It acts as an EC 3.4.15.1 (peptidyl-dipeptidase A) inhibitor, a cardioprotective agent, a matrix metalloproteinase inhibitor, and a bradykinin receptor B2 agonist. It is classified as a dicarboxylic acid monoester, an azabicycloalkane, a cyclopentapyrrole, and a conjugate acid of ramipril(1-).
