Cinchocaine is a monocarboxylic acid amide, specifically the 2-(diethylamino)ethyl amide of 2-butoxyquinoline-4-carboxylic acid. It is a potent and toxic long-acting local anesthetic, previously used parenterally for spinal anesthesia. Now primarily used as the hydrochloride in topical formulations, such as creams, ointments, and suppositories, for temporary relief of pain and itching in skin and anorectal conditions.
