Meloxicam is a benzothiazine in which the pyridin-2-yl group of piroxicam is replaced by a 5-methyl-1,3-thiazol-2-yl group. It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug and selective COX-2 inhibitor, used particularly for managing rheumatoid arthritis. It functions as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, antirheumatic drug, cyclooxygenase 2 inhibitor, and analgesic. It is also a monocarboxylic acid amide and a member of 1,3-thiazoles.
