Product Information

3,3',5-Triiodo-L-thyronine is an iodothyronine with iodine substituents at the 3-, 3', and 5-positions. It is primarily formed by mono-deiodination of L-thyroxine in peripheral tissues, though some is produced in the thyroid. Its metabolic activity is 3 to 5 times that of L-thyroxine. The sodium salt is used to treat hypothyroidism. It functions as a thyroid hormone and is a human and mouse metabolite. It is classified as an iodophenol, a 2-halophenol, and an iodothyronine. It is also the conjugate acid of 3,3',5-triiodo-L-thyroninate and a tautomer of the 3,3',5-triiodo-L-thyronine zwitterion.
