Meclofenamic acid is an aminobenzoic acid derived from anthranilic acid, with one hydrogen on the nitrogen replaced by a 2,6-dichloro-3-methylphenyl group. It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug used as the sodium salt to treat dysmenorrhoea, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis. It functions as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, antirheumatic, antineoplastic, anticonvulsant, analgesic, antipyretic, EC 1.13.11.34 (arachidonate 5-lipoxygenase) inhibitor, and EC 1.14.99.1 (prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase) inhibitor. It is classified as an aminobenzoic acid, secondary amino compound, and organochlorine compound, and is the conjugate acid of meclofenamic acid(1-).
