Methyldopa

Alpha-methyl-L-dopa is a L-tyrosine derivative with a methyl group at the alpha-position and a hydroxy group at the 3-position on the phenyl ring. It functions as a hapten, antihypertensive agent, alpha-adrenergic agonist, peripheral nervous system drug, and sympatholytic agent. It is a non-proteinogenic L-alpha-amino acid.
