Doxercalciferol is a synthetic vitamin D2 analogue and hydroxy seco-steroid that is metabolically activated in vivo to form 1alpha,25-dihydroxyvitamin D2, a biologically active form of vitamin D2. It is used to treat secondary hyperparathyroidism in patients with chronic kidney disease. It functions as a provitamin, bone density conservation agent, and prohormone, and is classified as a vitamin D and hydroxy seco-steroid.
