Tranilast is an amidobenzoic acid derived from anthranilic acid, with one anilino hydrogen replaced by a 3,4-dimethoxycinnamoyl group. It functions as an anti-asthmatic, nephroprotective, anti-allergic, calcium channel blocking, antineoplastic, aryl hydrocarbon receptor agonist, and hepatoprotective agent. It belongs to cinnamamides, dimethoxybenzenes, amidobenzoic acids, and secondary carboxamides, and is functionally related to anthranilic acid.
