Deltamethrin is a cyclopropanecarboxylate ester formed by the formal condensation of 3-(2,2-dibromovinyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylic acid and cyano(3-phenoxyphenyl)methanol. It is the active insecticide component of the proinsecticide tralomethrin. It functions as a pyrethroid ester insecticide, agrochemical, EC 3.1.3.16 (phosphoprotein phosphatase) inhibitor, calcium channel agonist, and antifeedant. It is an aromatic ether, organobromine compound, nitrile, and cyclopropanecarboxylate ester. It is functionally related to cis-3-(2,2-dibromovinyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylic acid.
