Cyclopentolate is a carboxylic ester formed by the condensation of (1-hydroxycyclopentyl)(phenyl)acetic acid with N,N-dimethylethanolamine. It is a tertiary amine antimuscarinic with actions similar to atropine, used as its hydrochloride salt to induce mydriasis and cycloplegia for ophthalmic diagnostic procedures.
