Proguanil is a biguanide compound with isopropyl and p-chlorophenyl groups on the terminal nitrogen atoms. It is a prophylactic antimalarial drug that inhibits dihydrofolate reductase, an enzyme essential for the reproduction of Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax within red blood cells.
