Givinostat is a naphthalene derivative substituted with ({[4-(hydroxycarbamoyl)phenyl]carbamoyl}oxy)methyl at position 2 and (diethylamino)methyl at position 6. It is a histone deacetylase inhibitor used in the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy. It functions as an anti-inflammatory, angiogenesis inhibitor, antineoplastic agent, and apoptosis inducer. It is classified as a carbamate ester, tertiary amino compound, hydroxamic acid, and member of naphthalenes and benzenes. It is also the conjugate base of givinostat(1+).
