Genistein is a 7-hydroxyisoflavone with hydroxy groups at positions 5 and 4'. It is a phytoestrogenic isoflavone with antioxidant properties. It functions as an antineoplastic agent, tyrosine kinase inhibitor, DNA topoisomerase (ATP-hydrolysing) inhibitor, phytoestrogen, plant metabolite, geroprotector, and human urinary metabolite. It is the conjugate acid of genistein(1-).
