Sotrastaurin is a maleimide substituted at position 3 with an indol-3-yl group and at position 4 with a quinazolin-4-yl group, which is further substituted at position 2 with a 4-methylpiperazin-1-yl group. It is a potent and selective protein kinase C inhibitor, investigated as an immunosuppressant in renal transplant patients. It functions as an EC 2.7.11.13 inhibitor, immunosuppressive agent, and anticoronaviral agent. It is classified as an N-alkylpiperazine, N-arylpiperazine, indole, quinazoline, and maleimide.
