Product Information

Carbidopa is the hydrate of 3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)propanoic acid with the hydrogens alpha to the carboxyl group substituted by hydrazinyl and methyl groups (S-configuration). It is a dopa decarboxylase inhibitor that prevents the conversion of levodopa to dopamine. Although it has no antiparkinson activity by itself, it is used in Parkinson's disease management to reduce peripheral adverse effects of levodopa. It functions as an inhibitor of EC 4.1.1.28 (aromatic-L-amino-acid decarboxylase), an antiparkinson drug, a dopaminergic agent, and an antidyskinesia agent. It belongs to hydrazines, hydrates, monocarboxylic acids, and catechols, and contains anhydrous carbidopa.
