Myriocin is an amino acid-based antibiotic derived from thermophilic fungi. It inhibits serine palmitoyltransferase, the first step in sphingosine biosynthesis, and acts as an immunosuppressant. Myriocin functions as an antimicrobial, antifungal, immunosuppressive agent, EC 2.3.1.50 inhibitor, apoptosis inducer, antineoplastic agent, and fungal metabolite. It is a sphingoid, alpha-amino fatty acid, non-proteinogenic alpha-amino acid, and hydroxy monocarboxylic acid.
