Galanthamine is a benzazepine alkaloid isolated from certain daffodil species. It functions as an antidote to curare poisoning, an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor (EC 3.1.1.7), a cholinergic drug, a cholinesterase inhibitor (EC 3.1.1.8), and a plant metabolite. It is an organic heterotetracyclic compound, a tertiary amino compound, a benzazepine alkaloid, and a fundamental parent benzazepine alkaloid. It is also the conjugate base of galanthamine(1+).
