Telbivudine is a synthetic L-enantiomer of thymidine, a pyrimidine 2'-deoxyribonucleoside. It acts as an antiviral drug and inhibitor of HBV DNA polymerase, with activity against RNA-directed DNA polymerase (EC 2.7.7.49). It is functionally related to thymine.
