Ephedrine

(-)-Ephedrine is a phenethylamine alkaloid with the structure of 2-phenylethanamine substituted by a methyl group at the amino nitrogen, a methyl group at position 2, and a hydroxy group at position 1. It functions as a nasal decongestant, sympathomimetic, vasoconstrictor, xenobiotic, environmental contaminant, plant metabolite, and bacterial metabolite. It belongs to the classes of phenylethanolamines and phenethylamine alkaloids and is the conjugate base of (-)-ephedrinium.
