Cinoxacin is a 6,7-methylenedioxycinnolin-4(1H)-one with an ethyl group at position 1 and a carboxylic acid group at position 3. It is an analogue of oxolinic acid with similar antibacterial activity. Previously used for urinary tract infections, it functions as an antibacterial drug and antiinfective agent. It belongs to the class of cinnolines, oxo carboxylic acids, and oxacycles.
