Oxolinic acid is a quinolinemonocarboxylic acid with the carboxy group at position 7, an oxo group at position 4, and an ethyl group at position 1. It contains a dioxolo ring fused at the 5- and 6-positions. A synthetic antibiotic used in veterinary medicine for treating bacterial infections in cattle, pigs, and poultry, it functions as an antiinfective agent, antibacterial drug, enzyme inhibitor, antimicrobial agent, and antifungal agent.
