Tilorone is a fluoren-9-one substituted with a 2-(diethylamino)ethoxy group at positions 2 and 7. It is an interferon inducer and a selective alpha7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonist. Its hydrochloride salt is used as an antiviral drug. It functions as an antiviral agent, interferon inducer, antineoplastic agent, anti-inflammatory agent, nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonist, and acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. It belongs to the class of fluoren-9-ones, tertiary amino compounds, aromatic ethers, and diethers. It is the conjugate base of tilorone(2+).
