Bortezomib is an L-phenylalanine derivative with an amide nitrogen substituted by a 1-(dihydroxyboranyl)-3-methylbutyl group and a pyrazin-2-ylcarbonyl group at the N(alpha) position. It is a dipeptidyl boronic acid that reversibly inhibits the 26S proteasome. It functions as an antineoplastic agent, proteasome inhibitor, protease inhibitor, and antiprotozoal drug. It is an amino acid amide, a member of pyrazines, and functionally related to boronic acid.
