Varespladib methyl is a methyl ester formed by the condensation of varespladib's carboxy group with methanol. It serves as a prodrug, anti-inflammatory agent, antidote, and inhibitor of EC 3.1.1.4 (phospholipase A2). It is used in the treatment of snakebite envenomations caused by PLA2 toxins. It is a methyl ester, aromatic ether, member of benzenes, indoles, and primary carboxamides, and functionally related to varespladib.
