Fingolimod is an aminodiol consisting of propane-1,3-diol with amino and 2-(4-octylphenyl)ethyl substituents at the 2-position. It is a sphingosine 1-phosphate receptor modulator used to treat relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis. As a prodrug, it is phosphorylated by sphingosine kinase to form the active metabolite fingolimod-phosphate, a structural analog of sphingosine 1-phosphate. It functions as an immunosuppressive agent, prodrug, antineoplastic agent, sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor agonist, and CB1 receptor antagonist. It is also an aminodiol and a primary amino compound, acting as the conjugate base of fingolimod(1+).
