Bepotastine is an ether, specifically (S)-(4-chlorophenyl)(pyridin-2-yl)methanol with the hydroxyl hydrogen replaced by a 1-(3-carboxypropyl)piperidin-4-yl group. It is a topical, selective, non-sedating H1 histamine receptor antagonist, used as its benzenesulfonate salt for treating itching in allergic conjunctivitis. It functions as a H1-receptor antagonist and anti-allergic agent. It belongs to pyridines, monocarboxylic acids, piperidines, ethers, and monochlorobenzenes. It is the conjugate base of bepotastine(1+).
