Product Information

Okadaic acid is a polycyclic ether produced by certain dinoflagellates, accumulating in marine sponges and shellfish. As a polyketide and polyether derivative of a C38 fatty acid, it is a primary cause of diarrhetic shellfish poisoning. It inhibits specific protein phosphatases, affects cellular function, and acts as a marine metabolite, a phosphoprotein phosphatase inhibitor (EC 3.1.3.16), and a calcium ionophore.
