Product Information
Encainide is 4-methoxy-N-phenylbenzamide with the 2-hydrogen of the phenyl group replaced by a 2-(1-methylpiperidin-2-yl)ethyl group. It is a class Ic antiarrhythmic, originally used for severe or life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias. However, it was withdrawn due to increased mortality in patients with asymptomatic heart rhythm abnormalities post-myocardial infarction. It functions as an anti-arrhythmia drug and sodium channel blocker, and is classified as a piperidine and benzamide.
