Cyclosporin A is a cyclic nonribosomal peptide composed of eleven amino acids. It is an immunosuppressant drug widely used post-allogeneic organ transplant to reduce immune system activity and prevent organ rejection. It reversibly inhibits immunocompetent lymphocytes in the G0- and G1-phases of the cell cycle. It also functions as an antifungal agent, antirheumatic drug, dermatologic drug, immunosuppressive agent, metabolite, carcinogenic agent, anti-asthmatic drug, inhibitor of EC 3.1.3.16 (phosphoprotein phosphatase), anticoronaviral agent, and geroprotector.
