Betahistine is an aminoalkylpyridine with a 2-(methylamino)ethyl group at position 2. It functions as a histamine H1-receptor agonist and vasodilator, improving labyrinthine microcirculation and reducing endolymphatic pressure. Used primarily as the hydrochloride or mesylate salt, it alleviates vertigo, tinnitus, and hearing loss in Meniere's disease. It also acts as a secondary amino compound.
