Product Information

Acemetacin is a carboxylic ester, specifically the carboxymethyl ester of indometacin. It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, low back pain, postoperative pain, and inflammation. Its activity is mediated by both acemetacin and its major metabolite, indometacin. It functions as a prodrug and inhibits prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase (EC 1.14.99.1). It is also a non-narcotic analgesic, an N-acylindole, a monocarboxylic acid, a carboxylic ester, an indol-3-yl carboxylic acid, and a member of monochlorobenzenes. It is functionally related to indometacin.
