Acifluorfen is a benzoic acid derivative in which the hydrogen at position 5 of 2-nitrobenzoic acid is replaced by a 2-chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl)phenoxy group. It is a herbicide used for post-emergence control of annual broadleaf weeds. It functions as a protoporphyrinogen oxidase (EC 1.3.3.4) inhibitor, and is classified as a herbicide, agrochemical, organochlorine compound, organofluorine compound, aromatic ether, monocarboxylic acid, and C-nitro compound.
