Fangchinoline is a bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloid and a macrocycle, specifically (1beta)-berbaman substituted with methyl groups at positions 2 and 2', methoxy groups at positions 6, 6', and 12, and a hydroxy group at position 7. Isolated from Stephania tetrandra, it exhibits neuroprotective and anti-tumour activity. It functions as an antineoplastic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-HIV-1, neuroprotective agent, and plant metabolite. It is also an aromatic ether.
