Nabumetone is a methyl ketone derived from 2-butanone, with one methyl hydrogen at position 4 replaced by a 6-methoxy-2-naphthyl group. It functions as a prodrug that is converted to the active metabolite, 6-methoxy-2-naphthylacetic acid, upon oral administration. It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, non-narcotic analgesic, cyclooxygenase 2 inhibitor, and methoxynaphthalene, with a slightly lower risk of gastrointestinal side effects compared to most other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
