Dopaminechrome (keto form) is an indoledione, specifically 2,3,5,6-tetrahydro-1H-indole with oxo groups at positions 5 and 6. It is the major microspecies at pH 7.3, a tautomer of dopaminechrome (enol form), and an endogenous compound formed during dopamine oxidation. It can induce neurotoxicity and Parkinson-like syndrome under aberrant conditions, acting as a neurotoxin. It is also classified as an orthoquinone.
